Grand Mosque: One of the Most Popular Landmarks in the World

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has been named one of the world’s most famous landmarks. The Mosque is not just a place of worship, it is also a place where people from all over the world can come to learn about Islam and its traditions. The place was opened in 2007, and since then, due to easy access to UAE Visa, it has attracted more than 53 million tourists, making it one of the most visited landmarks globally. The center gives visitors an insight into what life is like in a Muslim country and allows them to tour one of the largest mosques in the world.

The architecture of Sheikh Zayed Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Architecture is a masterpiece and one of the most significant architectural projects. At night the building looks like it is glowing because it has lights on the outside that illuminate it. During the day, the sun reflects off of it because of all of its white stones. The inside of the place is just as eye-catching as the outside.

Large chandeliers are hanging from the ceiling, and crystals reflect light everywhere. Landscaped gardens surround it with waterways and fountains, which cool the air around it during the hot summer months. The main prayer hall inside can accommodate over 40,000 worshippers, while the marble outer courtyard accommodates over 10,000 worshippers at peak times.

Best Time to Visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

There are two specific times you should try to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: sunrise and sunset. As the name suggests, the shrine is endowed with a large, towering dome that glows like a lantern at night. However, if you want to see it in all its glory at any time, you’ll need to go when the sun is setting or rising. With a UAE visa, enjoy the beauty of this religious place. Both times of day will provide some great photo ops, but sunrise and sunset present different opportunities for capturing the shrine’s beauty.

Here are some things to do at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque:

1. Get your family photos taken in front of the main prayer hall

This is a fantastic place to get your family photos taken! When you visit, you will see a lot of families taking group photos in front of the pavilion. We are sure they will treasure these images for years to come!

2. Visit the Mosque at night

The place is open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily except Friday mornings. You can visit during the day, but we highly recommend staying at night as the lighting is stunning!

3. See the enormous chandelier in the world

Did you know the massive chandelier in the world weighs twelve tons? It’s located inside, and it’s breathtaking.

4. Admire the giant handmade Persian carpet

Another world record set by this Masjid is its handmade Persian carpet which measures 5,627 square meters and took 1,200 Iranian artisans over two years to complete.

5. Visit during Ramadan

During Ramadan (the ninth month of the Islamic calendar), you can see how locals celebrate with nightly prayers at the Masjid during Taraweeh Prayer after fasting during daylight hours. This is especially meaningful if you visit on the 27th night of Ramadan when the entire Quran is recited over eight hours.
